September 30th, 2007AWN showcase: one effect a day… [video]
Update: new effect 3D turn, read and watch below for details and screencast
Week by week developers add new features, plugins and effects to Avant Window Navigator.
Nowadays AWN, and expecially the “curves” branch gives you plenty of effects that, combined with different shapes of the bar (the classic flat bar, the 3D look and the Curves look), lets you configure the dock according to your tastes.
In this post you can find 5 screencasts showing all the effects currently present in Avant Window Navigator.
The first screencast displays the Classic effect that AWN shows for default when you move the mouse over the icons in the bar.
The second video shows the Fade effect.
This one shows the newer Squish effect: the most recently introduced.
Zoom effect the closer behaviour to Mac OS X dock bar.
And finally the Spotlight effect which gives an “alien” behaviour to the icons!
I’ve just checked-out and compiled AWN-curves and I found two fresh effects: 3D turn to icons and bullets instead of arrows to highlight tasks on the dock.

I currently use AWN on my beta installation of Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 and I compile it as soon as new versions are available on Bazaar, in Launchpad, I’ve always been successful in compliling and installing it and it works very well on my macbook!
